My First Book Report

Having a 5 year old of my own, I have found that I have a real passion for children's books. Reading books in our house has become an every day event, and I don't just mean a few minutes before bedtime, we read books all throughout the day! I have found the stories and lessons in a great children's book are often things we as adults need to remind ourselves of from time to time. One book we have recently added to our home library is Jonathan James and the Whatif Monster by Michelle Nelson-Schmidt  and this is one of those books that everyone big and small could learn from!
Jonathan James is a young boy who is often visited by the Whatif Monster, and this fuzzy little green guy likes to remind Jonathan about everything and anything that could go wrong. "What if it’s scary? What if they laugh? What if it’s hard?" all these questions keep running through Jonathan James head every time he want to try something new. Then something clicks and the tone changes, suddenly whatif isn't so scary. What if the Whatif Monster is wrong!!! Jonathan James and the Whatif Monster reminds us that trying new things can be fun, not to be held back just because we may fail, because if we don't try we will never know. What if....  Whatif is the best decision we have ever made and we succeed beyond our wildest dreams!
Jonathan James and the Whatif Monster is available through Usborne Books & More!

  1. You have more strength than I do. I could never sit down and read children's books - my mind would wander too much and the kids would pick up on it. I guess it forced them to read on their own!

  2. I have to agree, oddly if I ever had a child I probably fall in love with reading stories to them. Its so much fun, I'm huge on reading and love learning new things. However, children books have so much life and color, interesting and adorable like things occurring. I think its a great thing to bond with your child, while reading a book.

  3. I think it's important that we read to our kids,we have to help expand their horizons..too many video games, not enough time exploring a closet on in a English mansion....

  5. We read a lot to our kids when they were young and it worked out great. My oldest just graduated high school and is an avid reader and has a wild imagination. So much so he started his own comic novel company. See, reading pays off when they are little. Don Purdum

  8. My oldest will be starting school this year. We are working on his reading now but it is a slow process because he has no interest, he wants things read to him. I hope once he starts school that will change though.

  33. We should keep the "reading books" activity alive forever in every home especially in our digital generation. It is not only the story in the book that we are feeding our kids mind but also the bonding moment and also making sure that our children are not driven by some of the misleading stories over the internet.
